“We're Here For You” I got a call from a woman wanting to stay at Crow Moon Healing because she was in isolation with a person who was experiencing the maniac phase of bi-polar. She was desperate to find a place to stay that night. My heart went out to her but I couldn’t help her, so I thought. We’re to be shut down, right? Well, her call triggered me to do some research and I found that, with some restrictions, I could have allowed her to stay. So, with this new information, as we all continue navigating this strange new world and adjust our lives to flattening the curve from Corona Virus spreading, Crow Moon Healing has decided to open our doors to guests who need a safe, quiet space to retreat from the stress and pressures of isolation. We are limiting our guests to one or two guests at a time and guests will be booked in rooms that have a private bathroom. There will be social distancing and repetitive cleansing in shared spaces. We will do our best to support flattening the curve while also supporting those who need respite. If you, or a loved one needs a safe, quiet space with plenty of fresh air, where you can walk or lay in the sun, and socialize with the animal crew, I want you to know that Crow Moon Healing is here to serve. Blessings, Karen Up Coming Events!!!!! ********************************************************************* NEW SERIES! “THE FIVE ELEMENTS” The Five Elements: A five-part shamanic series to hear the wisdom of the elements and create gentle shifts and greater connection Our intention is to hold this class monthly on a Sunday, five months in a row. Life at Crow Moon Healing has shifted for a time as we, along with the world, navigate a new normal, and yet, the heart of Crow Moon Healing remains the same. The farm animal friends still require attention. William got a new pen structure in the garage so that he feels safe when there are noises he doesn’t understand. The vet confirmed that as our piggy matures he may become less social. With the pen, William can choose to roam free in the yard, but he also has the option of quarantining himself to his private room if he doesn’t feel social. Marianne, the chicken is his faithful friend and he gladly shares his space with her. Alfred, the steer, is a year old and he’s full of piss and vinegar. Alfred’s always been playful, but at 800 pounds, it can be dangerous, so we’ve been working on halter training. Molly, his nanny goat walks with us and has no problem putting her huge protege in his place. Alfred loves attention, especially cookies and neck scratches. We’re getting started on a two-acre pasture in hopes of possibly welcoming a new arrival, a horse. I haven’t met Bella yet but I’ve been told that she loves attention. Adding her to the Crow Moon Healing crew will be an adjustment, but my hope is that we all will benefit from her perspective. The grass in the field is getting green and Fred has the tractors, mower and other equipment oiled and ready for another year of harvesting hay. We’ve got projects waiting in the wings, a lower level patio area with a fire pit, sprucing up the upper deck, a new metal roof and hopefully a freshly painted front door. We look forward to the time when people are free to enjoy traveling once again. Until then, we at Crow Moon Healing wish you health and well being! March Newsletter
“Quiet time at Crow Moon Healing” The day is cold and the sun is losing the game of hid and seek with the clouds. The chimes outside are creating a cacophony of tinkles and clanks. Alfred, the jersey steer is not liking his hay. He mopes in his playground bumping the tire swing in mild frustration, longing for the fields to turn green again. William, the potbelly pig is grouchy and constipated, spending most of the day holing himself up in a pile of straw. He doesn’t like snow and cold. He peeks himself out periodically to bang and complain, asking for sweet treats. I understand their plight. I feel dull and slightly down in the dumps. The cold is in my bones. I sit wrapped in a quilt with a heated bean bag between my feet that has two pairs of socks. I journal but what I really want to do is hibernate and eat cookies and drink hot chocolate until the snow is melted. I long for the days of sun-shine and green grass. The quiet of winter, which I had once embraced, has lost its appeal. I’m ready for the season of hosting guests. I’m a homemaker and my joy is creating breakfast and pouring coffee. I enjoy connecting with people. I love to hear their stories, of where they have traveled and what they’ve experienced. I'm ready to support Debra Morrill in her classes. The shaman, with her sensitive ways assists people in exploring this ancient way of spirituality and I have the privilege of watching the guests light up as they connect with the teaching. I'm down with being quiet. At Crow Moon Healing we welcome guests, spiritual seekers and Spring! It takes a brave person to look at their life honestly and decide to actively change the patterns of behavior that no longer serve them. It takes courage to drop the protection that has been built around the heart and allow oneself to be vulnerable to the pain within. It takes compassion, to sit with the mess of emotions that can flood through a wounded soul. And it takes strength to meet each day with fresh eyes, no harboring of resentment towards anyone, including yourself. To the degree a person can be brave, courageous, compassionate and strong with themselves, is the same degree they are able to hold space for others to do the same. If you feel called to actively make a positive shift in your life and to foster a better understanding of the energetic connection we have with all, perhaps you are ready to reach out for a shamanic healing. Here at Crow Moon Healing we hold space for deep healing. It’s the close of another year. A close of a decade. I’m older, hopefully a bit wiser, but mostly humbled by how much I am loved, by family, friends and by the energy that is greater than everything, God, Great Spirit. Ten years ago, I started each day in a place of fear, literally my body would shake some days before getting out of bed. I felt I had this awesome responsibility to fix and make right everything in my life and the life of the ones around me. I was on my own with my abundance of worries. It was all up to me. In some twisted way, I was under the illusion that I was contracted to play God in my family’s life and I was underqualified. In the decade that has ended, I can look back in gratefulness for the truth I was shown ever so kindly, lovingly and gently. A good life is not about control, dominance and driven by fear. Life, for me, is about surrender, creativity and love. I accept my humanness too, as some days I catch myself in fear, rather than love, but I’m catching it and I know that in every given moment, I’m doing the best I can and so is everyone else. Now, ten years later, I wake up with hope and a prayer on my lips, giving the day over for the highest good of myself and others. As I go about my day, I possibly forget myself and hook up with the energy of fear or its partner anger, but I catch it, or perhaps someone else catches it for me and shares. Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have understood any of what I’m writing today. It doesn’t matter how someone finds spirituality. It can be a structured organization, or meditational experience, or like for me, being with my animal friends. There is no one right way to discover a love for oneself and all beings. Connecting with Divine Love brings appreciation and reverence for all that is experienced, even those times that are subjected to misinterpretations of being “bad” or “troubled. I’ve been on my healing path since 2012 and although I feel connected to Divine, I am, and will always be in the process of healing. My wish for everyone in 2020 and this next decade, is that we all are able to feel God’s presence more deeply in our daily lives and spend more time allowing the energies of love to be our catalyst for change. At Crow Moon Healing we support individuality in spirituality. Many blessings for the coming year ahead. “Take a deep breath and count to 10”, my daughter sang to her 3-year old son, Finn. Ann breathed with him as he followed his mother’s directive. He got over his upset and chose to stay near his mother while she put together his sister’s room. Finn was upset with grandma. I had taken his rabbit, Mr. Hop and given him a new personality. Mr. Hop had transformed into an exuberant bunny full of sass, which was very much incongruent to Mr. Hop’s bedtime calm charm he provided for Finn. Although, Finn’s younger sister, Laureline loved it, and grandma was having fun, Finn ran to his mother upset. His wise mother empathized with him, then directed Finn to connect with his breathing. Ann breathed along with Finn, supporting him in relaxing his body and emotions. There is a power in the breath. Whether we want to calm ourselves, release excess emotion or energy, get oxygen into our lungs, relax, center or focus, taking a deep breath, connecting to the gift of life, is always the correct choice. The power of the breath to release energy in the body is profound and doing it with the support of a compassionate witness amplifies the benefits. Although I’ve got some reconciliation to do with my grandson over Mr. Hop, I’m so grateful that he is being taught how to support his emotions with the breath. At Crow Moon Healing we embrace the gift of breathing. ******************************************************************************Up Coming Events at Crow Moon Healing TWO-DAY BASIC SHAMANISM CLASS - MARCH 7-8, 2020 Connecting with Divine Spirit through Shamanism A two-day basic shamanism workshop Saturday, March 7, 2020 • 9 am - 9 pm Sunday, March 8, 2020 • 9 am - 4 pm Crow Moon Healing • 6472 Breunig Road, rural Mazomanie, WI From the beginning of time, indigenous cultures on every continent shared a shamanic spiritual view. “Power Up with a Power Song” The voice is a powerful instrument and when it’s allowed to express itself in song it can open us up to a deep spiritual place. Think of the church songs, the school anthems, the National Anthem or even the pop cultural songs that trigger an emotional response. There is something to the vibrational experience of song. Traveling the familiar road, the road of my childhood, to what’s left of my parent’s farmland still in our family name, to a sparse reunion of siblings, nephews and nieces, I begin to hum. The humming transfers to a vocalization of non-words, my power song. In shamanism, a power song is personal, unique to the individual. It doesn’t have to have words, in fact, it’s best if it doesn’t. It’s a rhythmic, simplistic blend of vocalizations, drumming, rattling, and perhaps dance, that is repeated. Singing my power song is an invitation to the deeper, wiser part of myself, to my spirit helpers, Mother Earth and Great Spirit to come and be with me. Shamans use a power song to prepare themselves for a spiritual healing or ceremony. On this day, I used my power song to soften my heart creating an opening for God’s presence to abide. Family reunions can be tricky to navigate, old wounds can be triggered. I wanted to be in a place of love with my family. I sang my power song on this day so that I could prepare myself to be a vessel of love and healing for myself and my family. When I arrived I felt ready, ready to be fully present with my siblings, and extended family. The day flowed. I felt the love. At Crow Moon Healing, we support the connection to the Divine through song. Spiritually, they are the purifiers. In nature vultures eat the diseased animals but their poop is clear of the disease. This tattoo reminds me to surrender my dis-ease to the power and wisdom of Turkey Vulture.” “Oh, that is so cool! We have a nesting pair by our house,” She replied. "How wonderful!" I replied. The lively music started going and it was time to mimic the instructor’s motions. As I worked out, I was drawn back in time to when turkey vulture introduced itself to me as a power animal. I was in a place of emotional dis-ease when I noticed four, large, gliding, black birds circling the car. They seemed to follow the four of us as we drove the unfamiliar roads. It was odd but interesting. My interest became fascination during the next couple of days. I’d look up to the heavens and there would be at least one vulture overhead serenely floating on the air currents above me. It was very curious how comforting it was to be followed and surrounded by this large bird. During the event that was causing dis-ease within me, I called to the energy, the wisdom, of turkey vulture and I’d see one above the water at the beach. As I moved locations, another one would be floating over the reception area. The uncomfortable feelings I was having, the suffering in my heart, was eased a bit as I opened to the power of these peaceful birds. I accepted the “Isness” and was able to experience moments of Peace. Since that introductory experience, turkey vulture has been my constant power animal ever since. I honor them with the tattoo on my wrist. It might sound weird to find energetic support in a power animal but really what are school and sport mascots? They are forms of power animals that we use to invoke courage, team spirit and confidence. At Crow Moon Healing, we believe and embrace the wisdom of power animals. **************************************************************************** Up Coming Events at Crow Moon Healing Peace & Power When Life Hits the Fan Getting and Staying Present in a Chaotic Worrld A Women's Retreat Saturday October 12 9-5pm 15 minutes North of Madison at Crow Moon Healing B&B Optional Fire Circle & Ceremony 5:30-8pm Life is challenging, we live in a changing culture and are hit by a constant stream of tough news. From the little things, like daily activities of maintaining my house as a bed and breakfast, and not so little things, like being able to surrender to experiences that appear to be negative, like relationship stresses. I love it when I don’t react to an untasteful experience but rather hold my seat, observe, be present and surrender sooner, rather than later, the person or situation over to Divine Order. At times, I know what I want, and that’s great, but there are a lot of times when I’m not sure what is right for me, or for others, so I give it over to spirit and listen to the wisdom of my heart and allow myself to be held, supported and guided by the Creator of All. I’m not psychic. I cannot tell the fortune of others or myself, but I have dreams, hopes and feelings about things. I give myself space and time to hold my dreams tenderly but then I surrender them to the Creator and let it go. I pay attention, loosely, and hold the energy of curiosity, doing my best not to sit in fear when something arises that appears contrary to what I had hoped for. I have learned through some tough experiences, that sometimes things have to get shaken up a bit before settling into place. I don’t always know what’s in my highest and best good either, so I surrender to a power that is far greater than myself and give gratitude for where I’m at. My days flow, sometimes like a fast river and other times like a trickling creek, but they do flow. I love it when I recognize the flow. The flow is Divine Order, answering a prayer, a hope, a deep desire. Divine Order is free and for everyone and that is so cool! May the flow be with you! “The Power of Healing Intentions” My lip quivered, my right leg fussed and twitched, my eyes squeezed shut as I felt the anger and pain rise up from deep within. I was feeling out a healing intention with the support of my shamanic teacher, Debra Morrill and the group of students that signed up for the practicum, an extension of the 2 ½ year medicine wheel. I have been doing this deep inner work of the soul continuously for over 7 years. I know that when my body reacts physically and I’m feeling emotionally vulnerable, that I’ve gotten to the core of what’s coming up for healing. Like a pouty 5-year old, I shared with the group, “I’m Karen and I Forgive.” It didn’t feel good to say this at first, as there was trauma surfacing with it. In fact, it was hard. I repeated, “I’m Karen and I Forgive” several times with the group holding space for me, just as I held space for them earlier. Creating this healing intention wasn’t easy, but after experiencing the positive effects from many classes and medicine wheels with Debra, I trust the process. I know that as soon as the healing intention is set, the universe meets me and brings forth the experiences, people and awareness to facilitate healing. All I need to do is be show up for myself and keep my heart open. In fact, the healing from my first medicine wheel was so profound, I exclaimed to Debra, “I don’t ever want to stop!” And I haven’t. Using healing intentions as a guide, a mantra, a goal, a prayer, our energy and perspectives shift and healing happens. I reflect on the intentions I’ve set over the years, “I Align with My Soul”, “I Hold Space Beautifully”, “I Matter”, “I Embrace My Gifts”. I marvel at the transformation I experienced through them. Although setting healing intentions and doing the deep inner work of the soul is not easy, it’s life changing, for the better. The empathic, fear driven, co-dependent person I was before would be totally impressed and flabbergasted with the person I am today; the owner of Crow Moon Healing Bed and Breakfast, a place for people to come, rest, have fun, learn, heal and connect with Spirit and animal friends. I can honestly say, “I love my life!” If you are curious and want to know more about creating healing intentions for yourself or participate in any of Debra Morrill’s classes contact me through my email crowmoonhealing@gmail.comor Debra at debramorrill6@icloud.com.
