“Power Up with a Power Song” The voice is a powerful instrument and when it’s allowed to express itself in song it can open us up to a deep spiritual place. Think of the church songs, the school anthems, the National Anthem or even the pop cultural songs that trigger an emotional response. There is something to the vibrational experience of song. Traveling the familiar road, the road of my childhood, to what’s left of my parent’s farmland still in our family name, to a sparse reunion of siblings, nephews and nieces, I begin to hum. The humming transfers to a vocalization of non-words, my power song. In shamanism, a power song is personal, unique to the individual. It doesn’t have to have words, in fact, it’s best if it doesn’t. It’s a rhythmic, simplistic blend of vocalizations, drumming, rattling, and perhaps dance, that is repeated. Singing my power song is an invitation to the deeper, wiser part of myself, to my spirit helpers, Mother Earth and Great Spirit to come and be with me. Shamans use a power song to prepare themselves for a spiritual healing or ceremony. On this day, I used my power song to soften my heart creating an opening for God’s presence to abide. Family reunions can be tricky to navigate, old wounds can be triggered. I wanted to be in a place of love with my family. I sang my power song on this day so that I could prepare myself to be a vessel of love and healing for myself and my family. When I arrived I felt ready, ready to be fully present with my siblings, and extended family. The day flowed. I felt the love. At Crow Moon Healing, we support the connection to the Divine through song. From the beginning of time, indigenous cultures on every continent shared a shamanic spiritual view. Our forebears lived close to the earth, deeply in tune with her cycles and seasons, the elements and nature. In this connection, they found their spirituality. they believed that every living being had a spirit- not just people, but also animals, trees, stones and plants. They commonly traveled into the spirit realm to communicate and interact with power animals, spirit guides and nature spirits. Through exploring the basics of shamanism, we can rekindle our connection to the divine and develop our ability to communicate directly with Spirit to receive guidance on our spiritual path. This is a foundational class for future shamanic workshops. In this two-day experiential workshop, we will:
